Job summary

The City of Valdez Parks and Recreation, Aquatics Division, is hiring lifeguards to supervise pool patrons and ensure safety through rule enforcement. The position offers a flexible schedule, typically 15 to 20 hours per week, and is temporary with no benefits.

Hiring may begin no earlier than August 24, 2026 and includes pre-employment drug screening. Responsibilities include enforcing Red Cross standards, responding to emergencies, maintaining front desk procedures and promoting program

Qualifications

• High school education with relevant experience.
• Red Cross Lifeguard certification or ability to obtain prior to starting work - onsite training provided.
• Must be 15 years of age or older.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety of participants when they are in pool area.
• Ensure that Red Cross standards are met in aquatic safety, patron supervision, facility safety and cleanliness.
• Perform any necessary rescues in accordance with Red Cross standards.
• Respond to emergency situations as the first responder in accordance to Valdez Pool Policies and Red Cross standards.
• Enforce facility rules and lifeguard policies and procedures.
• Maintain rescue readiness at all times, including physical, emotional and psychological skills.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
• Provide positive customer service and promote park programs.
