Job summary

Holy Cross College is seeking a part-time Library Technician to support the Library Services department. The role includes supervising the library during the director’s absence, assisting patrons, handling circulation and reserves, and aiding in cataloging and weeding efforts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Familiarity with established library methods, procedures, and library tools.
• Able to be courteous, tactful, warm, and welcoming with students.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Work cooperatively with other members of the college community.
• Learn and develop proficiency in the library’s online systems and resources.
• Ability to meet user needs promptly and without judgment.
• Ability to work independently with little direction.

Responsibilities

• Act as the person in charge when the director is absent from the library during their shift.
• Answer reference questions using standard print and on-line reference sources.
• Perform circulation procedures including overdue material, fees, and interlibrary loans.
• Work with faculty to place requested materials on reserve in a timely manner.
• Assist in processing new books after they are cataloged.
• Assist in the weeding of books from the collection.
• Other duties as assigned.
