Research and Learning Services Librarian, Holyoke Community College (Holyoke)
The Research and Learning Services Librarian is a part-time professional librarian position responsible forproviding research assistance, reference services, libraryinstruction, outreach, and engagement activities thatsupport student learning and academic success. The positionworks collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, andcommunity users to connect learners with library resources,services, technologies, and learning opportunities.Reporting directly to the Dean of Library Services, theResearch and Learning Services Librarian collaborates withlibrary faculty and staff to deliver responsive, student-centered services and contributes to assessment, planning,and continuous improvement efforts that advance the missionand goals of the Library and the College.
This is a part-time, annually renewable positionscheduled to work up to 18.5 hours per week during theacademic year. The position is expected to workapproximately 32 weeks per year, generally coinciding withthe fall and spring semesters. Continued appointment iscontingent upon institutional needs, available funding, andsatisfactory performance.
Public Services and Research Support
- Provides research assistance, reference services,referrals, and general library support to students, faculty,staff, and community users through in-person and virtualinteractions.
- Serves as the primary librarian forreference and public services during assigned hours andcontributes to the effective operation of library servicepoints.
- Assists users in identifying, accessing,evaluating, and effectively using library resources,technologies, and services.
- Collaborates with librarystaff and student employees to provide responsive, student-centered service.
- Maintains current knowledge oflibrary resources, services, technologies, and policies tosupport user needs.
Instruction and Student Learning
- Plans and delivers library instruction sessions,workshops, and other learning activities that supportinformation literacy, research skills, and studentsuccess.
- Collaborates with faculty, librarians, andcampus partners to support instruction, student learning,and research success initiatives.
- Developsinstructional materials, research guides, tutorials, andother learning resources.
- Contributes to the assessmentand continuous improvement of instructional services andlearning activities.
Outreach and Engagement
- Participates in outreach, engagement, and programmingefforts that connect students with library resources,services, and learning opportunities.
- Supportsinitiatives that promote awareness and use of librarycollections, services, spaces, and technologies.
- Collaborates with librarians, faculty, staff, and campuspartners to advance student engagement and success.
Professional Contributions and Library Operations
- Participates in assessment, planning, and continuousimprovement activities that support the mission and goals ofthe Library and the College.
- Attends library andcollege meetings, trainings, and professional developmentactivities as appropriate.
- Contributes to specialprojects, strategic initiatives, and other libraryactivities as assigned.
- Maintains awareness of trends,developments, and emerging practices in academiclibrarianship and higher education.
- Performs otherduties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Library Science;
- One yearexperience providing reference and research assistance;
- One year experience providing library instructionalsessions.
