Job summary

The City of Somerville's Central Library is seeking cheerful, enthusiastic staff to join a team delivering excellent services to patrons of all ages. This part-time role staffs public service desks across Reference, Children’s, Teen, and Circulation departments, and supports programs and outreach.

Evenings and weekends are required; up to 19 hours per week. Salary is $29.14/hour and benefits are not included. Multilingual ability and flexibility are valued in this role.

Qualifications

• MLS from an ALA-accredited program preferred.
• Students enrolled in accredited graduate library programs with relevant coursework are encouraged to apply.
• Excellent reference and customer service skills required.
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
• Knowledge of public library operations and willingness to work evenings/weekends.

Responsibilities

• Staffs public service desks in Reference, Children’s, Teen, and Circulation departments.
• Offers reference and readers’ advisory services.
• Assists patrons with public computers, printers, copiers, scanners, and fax machines.
• Assists staff with programs and outreach initiatives.
• Interacts with the public cheerfully and with tact.
• Other duties as assigned.
