Job summary

City of Long Beach’s Library, Arts and Culture Department seeks two unclassified, part-time Library Aide (Non-Career) – Learning Guide positions with the Family Learning Centers program. Learn to support student study skills, assist with homework, and help patrons, under a supervising Librarian, at either the Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library or the Billie Jean King Main Library.

These roles are non-career, limited to 1600 hours per year, with 18–24 hours weekly and shifts including two

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Type at least 20 net words per minute.
• Lift up to 40 pounds.
• Willingness to work part-time and irregular schedules, including evenings and weekends.
• Must be available for three shifts per week including two Saturdays a month.
• Valid driver's license may be required for some assignments.

Responsibilities

• Assist students with homework and educational skills.
• Assist patrons with resources, job search skills, and use of public computers and devices.
• Prepare and maintain program paperwork, data entry, monthly reports and statistics as required.
• Maintain discipline and good behavior in the Learning Center (FLC).
• Attend mandatory training sessions for Learning Guides.
