Job summary

Town of Fairfield, CT seeks a part-time Custodian to maintain cleanliness of town libraries and related buildings. Responsibilities include cleaning bathrooms, floors, furniture, setup of meeting rooms, basic maintenance, and assisting staff.

The ideal candidate has a High School diploma or equivalent, a valid driver's license with a vehicle for deliveries, and at least 6 months custodial experience. Flexibility with weekend days and some weeknights is helpful.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Valid Driver's License and personal car for deliveries.
• Minimum of six (6) months of custodial experience preferred.
• Verifiable work record demonstrating good attendance and ability to work well with others.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive and scheduled cleaning of bathrooms, garbage collection and removal; vacuuming, sweeping of floors, polishing of furniture, dusting of shelving, furniture, glass doors, windows and shelving, washing walls, utilize hi-speed buffing equipment.
• Setup and tear down of meeting rooms and equipment as required.
• Perform routine building maintenance and specialized cleaning.
• Maintain adequate custodial supplies including bathroom and general building maintenance supplies.
• Assist in manual tasks such as emptying outside book drops and transporting books.
• Inspect and understand building mechanical systems.
• Assist in opening and closing procedures.
• Travel between library buildings and run errands as needed.
• Respond to inclement weather with de-icing or shoveling as required.
• Communicate and cooperate with other custodians.
• May perform minor repairs and painting of library spaces.
