Job summary

City of Boise is seeking a Substitute Library Assistant I to support circulation, reference, and technology services. This role requires helping users, maintaining accounts, and guiding patrons with library resources. Hours vary with up to 19 hours per week, weekend shifts are common.

Experience in customer service or a related field is preferred, and candidates must pass background checks per City of Boise regulations. Flexibility for different locations and a calm, patient approach are valued.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Some customer service experience.
• Or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist with circulation, reference and technology support.
• Maintain accurate user account information and resolve customer concerns tactfully.
• Assist the public with library computer use and related technology; explain policies and procedures.
• Handle basic issues and refer complex issues to higher-level staff.
• Perform opening/closing procedures and check in returned materials using library systems.
• Maintain library collections by sorting and shelving materials; create displays to promote programs and materials.
• Assist with offsite events for users of all ages and other duties as assigned.
