Department Summary

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at SJSU offers 4 undergraduate programs and 3 graduate programs, in addition to training students pursuing a single subject credential in Mathematics.

Brief Description Of Duties
  • Supervise student teachers.
  • Demonstrate awareness of and experience in meeting the needs of a diverse student population through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.
  • Organize all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) and ensure classes are offered and meet as scheduled throughout the semester or term, in the mode assigned (asynchronous, synchronous, bivrington, in‑person, or hybrid).
  • Address the needs of a student population with diverse ages, abilities, cultural backgrounds, ethnicities, religions, economic statuses, primary languages, sexual orientations, gender identities, and academic preparations.
Required Qualifications
  • MA in Mathematics Education or Education.
  • California single subject teaching credential in Mathematics.
  • Local high school teaching experience.
  • Working knowledge of student‑teaching requirements for the credential program.
  • Evidence of strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population, gained through cross‑cultural study, training, teaching, or comparable experience.
Compensation

Compensation and salary placement are determined by qualifications and experience. For more information, see University Policy S21‑2.

Anticipated Starting Salary
  • L‑A / Range 2 – $5,507 – $5,959 per month
  • L‑B / Range 3 – $6,221 – $7,481 per month
  • L‑C / Range 4 – $6,825 – $9,431 per month
  • L‑D / Range 5 – $8,593 – $10,347 per month

These are anticipated monthly salaries for full‑time AY faculty; part‑time rates are prorated.

Employment Conditions

Appointment is also contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to the collective bargaining agreement between CSU and CFF.
