Job summary

Fort Bend County is seeking a part-time Library Assistant for the Law Library. You will assist patrons at the reference desk, answer legal reference questions, and help with catalog searches and computer access.

The role requires some evening/weekend availability, a high school diploma (2 years of college preferred), and basic typing and computer skills. A supportive team environment and ongoing training are offered.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; 2 years of college preferred.
• Typing and keyboarding skills; strong computer/internet/database search skills.
• Excellent communication and ability to interact with staff and the public.

Responsibilities

• Answer legal reference questions at the reference desk.
• Search catalog, databases and print sources for patron inquiries.
• Assist patrons using public computers and access the public catalog.
• Use Fort Bend County Records website to access the internet and databases.
• Collect fees for printing.
• Attend reference training and ongoing educational programs.
• Perform shelf-reading, shelving duties, and maintain the law library shelf list.
• Complete book processing or other duties as assigned.
• Study databases and legal resources to stay familiar with resources.
