Job summary

Fort Bend County is seeking a Part-Time Library Assistant for the Law Library in Richmond, TX. You will assist at the reference desk, answer legal reference questions, and refer complex inquiries to full-time staff.

You will search catalogs, databases, and print sources, assist patrons with public computers, and help maintain the law library shelves. Some evenings and weekends are required.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of college.
• Relevant library or legal experience preferred.
• Typing and keyboarding skills.
• Computer skills involving use of the internet and database searching.
• Good communication skills and ability to interact easily with staff and the public.
• Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and lift up to 10lbs. of library materials.
• Evening and weekend hours required.

Responsibilities

• Assist full-time staff at the library's reference desk.
• Provide answers to legal reference questions, referring complicated questions to full-time staff.
• Search catalogs, databases and print sources to answer patron inquiries.
• Assist patrons in using public computers to access the public catalog.
• Use Fort Bend County Records website to access internet and databases.
• Collect fees for printing.
• Help in other areas of the library as required.
• Attend reference training and other educational programs when available.
• Study databases and legal reference resources to maintain familiarity with all information resources.
