Job summary

Mendocino Railway's Skunk Train division in Fort Bragg, CA is seeking a dependable Kitchen Cashier for part-time service. You will greet guests, process orders at the POS, handle payments, and help maintain a clean, efficient service area in a fast-paced kitchen environment.

This role requires weekend/evening availability and adherence to food safety standards, with benefits including paid sick leave and retirement plan. Training provided and safety protocols followed.

Qualifications

• Previous cashier/food service or customer service experience preferred.
• Valid Food Handler Certification preferred or ability to obtain.
• Experience operating a POS system preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet guests in a friendly and professional manner and provide excellent customer service.
• Accurately take and enter food and beverage orders into the POS system.
• Process credit card transactions accurately.
• Maintain accountability for payments and report discrepancies to management.
• Answer guest questions regarding menu items, pricing, ingredients, and available food and beverage options.
• Communicate guest orders clearly and accurately to kitchen staff.
• Verify orders for accuracy and completeness before providing them to guests.
• Assist with packaging, organizing, and distributing food orders.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of service areas.
• Restock utensils, napkins, condiments, beverages, and other service supplies as needed.
• Assist with basic food preparation, stocking, and kitchen support duties as assigned.
• Follow food safety, sanitation, and proper food-handling procedures at all times.
• Assist with opening and closing procedures, including preparing and cleaning the cashier/service area.
• Support kitchen staff and management during high-volume service periods.
• Assist with special events and other food service operations as needed.
• Respond professionally to guest questions or concerns and escalation issues to management.
• Follow all applicable health and safety laws, regulations, standards, and company policies.
• Communicate effectively with guests, crew members and supervisors to ensure seamless service.
• Ensure the safety and comfort of all passengers.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
