Rutgers University-Newark is seeking part-time instructors for the Spring 2027 semester in the Philosophy Department. The successful candidate will teach philosophy surveys or upper-level courses, covering the full range of duties from curriculum preparation to grading and final grade submission.

Courses may be held day, evening, weekend, on-campus, online or in hybrid/remote formats. The position requires a Bachelor’s in philosophy (Master’s/Ph.D.

Salary: A minimum of $2,777 per credit.

Posting Summary: The Department of Philosophy, School of Arts and Sciences-Newark, Rutgers University-Newark (RU-N), is seeking part-time instructors (Lecturer/Coadjutant) for the Spring 2027 semester to teach philosophy surveys or upper-level courses focused on specific themes or topics. The successful candidate will cover the full range of duties associated with teaching, including, but not limited to, preparing course material; creating and posting a course syllabus; presenting material during the assigned course times; holding office hours and providing appropriate out-of-class time for students; responding to student e-mails; conducting and grading assessments of students through assignments, exams, and other means, in a timely manner; and submitting final grades. Course appointments may require instruction during the day, in the evenings, on weekends, off-campus, online, hybrid, remotely, or any combination of these, based on the academic needs of the department/unit.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in philosophy or closely related area required. Master's degree, Ph.D. or other terminal degree strongly preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills a must. Demonstrated ability to teach at the university level is highly desired.
