Job summary

St. Charles Community College seeks a Part-time Instructional Designer to design and develop learning experiences across online, hybrid, and remote modalities.

You will work with faculty to analyze and create courses, activities, and assessments grounded in learning theory and quality standards. The role requires a Master's degree in Instructional Design or related field with several years' experience, familiarity with LMS tools, and strong collaboration and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree or equivalent in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or related field with three or more years' experience.
  • Doctorate degree with at least one year experience considered.
  • Two or more years online or hybrid teaching preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office; building courses in an LMS; using 3rd party tools; developing online multimedia; HTML/CSS.
  • Experience with Canvas, Respondus, Adobe Creative Suite, ARC, Camtasia, iSpring, and Snagit preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and improve instructional content for multiple modalities (online, hybrid, remote, and flex).
  • Provide consultations to faculty on learning outcomes, course modality, accessibility, and assessment strategies.
  • Ensure course quality through QA reviews and alignment with learning outcomes and standards.
  • Collaborate with departments and external partners; manage projects from concept to implementation.

SCC is seeking a Part time Instructional Designer who willresearch, inform and provide professional development and innovateteaching and technology approaches, tools, and processes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Instructional and Learning Experience Design and Development
  • Work with faculty and staff in any teaching modality, includingonline, technology-enabled, hybrid, remote, and flex
  • Analyze, design, and develop content, activities, assessments,courses, and processes for multiple modalities through theappropriate blend of pedagogy and technology based on learningtheory, instructional design practices, and quality assurancerubrics.
  • Provide consultations and serve as a resource to faculty andstaff on the design, development, implementation, evaluation, andrevision of learning outcomes, course modality, high-impactlearning practices, Universal Design for Learning (UDL),accessibility issues and remediation, content creation, effectiveassessment strategies, and other instructional design, learningexperience, andor technology concerns.
Quality Assurance
  • Ensure course quality by performing quality assurance reviewsand recommending revisions in accordance with the expected learningoutcomes, best practices or other standards, and quality assurancerubrics.
  • Develop and implement measurement and evaluation strategies toassess the efficiency and effectiveness of learning solutions onperformance.
  • Consult on and monitor fair use and copyright; regular,substantive interaction; and accessibility in digitalenvironments.
Emerging Technology
  • Demonstrate a strong foundation and curiosity for technologyand applications in an educational environment.
  • Discern which technologies and tools are best suited fordifferent specific educational and business use cases.
  • Demonstrate advanced computing and technology skills andefficiency utilizing complex computing applications.
Communication, Collaboration, and Work Habits
  • Demonstrate advanced written, presentation, and training skillsto nurture collaboration and knowledge sharing practices with the ability to explain complex technological concepts in an accessiblemanner to any audience.
  • Write concise, creative, and effective instruction.
  • Crosstrain to ensure continuity of services.
  • Collaborate with external partners and other departments onprojects, institutional initiatives, and committee work.
  • Work independently with minimum direction; take projectssuccessfully from concept to implementation and provide progressreporting.
  • Ability to follow up, follow through, multi-task, setpriorities, and adhere to deadlines.
  • Ensure final project deliverables are of the highestquality.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the Department of Online& E-Learning by performing all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Knowledge and Experience
  • Master's degree or equivalent in Instructional Design,Instructional Technology, or other relevant field with three ormore year's related experience is required.
  • A Doctorate degree in a related field with at least one yearexperience will be considered.
  • Two or more years of online or hybrid teaching is stronglypreferred.
  • Must be able to consult and monitor fair use and copyright indigital environments.
  • Must be proficient with: Microsoft Office; building courses ina Learning Management System (LMS) using 3rd party web tools,Social Media applications, and publisher provided digital contentthat is integrated in or used with an LMS; developing onlinemultimedia materials; and utilizing HTML/CSS.
  • Experience with the following applications strongly preferred:Canvas, Respondus, Adobe Creative Suite, ARC, Camtasia, iSpring,and Snagit.
