Job summary

City of Chesapeake Virginia is seeking a Part-Time Transportation Driver for the Intellectual Disability Day Support Program. This role requires no CDL for some assignments, with potential CDL needs depending on duties.

Starting rate and hours are provided; work schedule is Monday–Friday, 25 hours weekly. Responsibilities include transporting clients in wheelchair-accessible vans, assisting with boarding, inspections, and logs, and maintaining safety and compliance.

Qualifications

• Requires valid driver’s license and driving record in compliance with City Driving Standards.
• Minimum of one month of related, full-time equivalent experience.
• May require CDL Class C or CDL Class B with Passenger Certification depending on assignment.

Responsibilities

• Safely transport individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities to and from the Day Support Program and community-based activities in wheelchair accessible vans.
• Assist passengers with boarding, exiting, and securing mobility devices as needed.
• Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance concerns.
• Maintain accurate transportation logs and required documentation.
• Ensure that the Program Vehicles receive the required Preventive Maintenance (PM).
• Follow all traffic laws, agency policies, and safety procedures.
• Foster a respectful, person-centered environment while interacting with individuals, families, and staff.
• Respond appropriately to emergencies and support individuals in a calm, professional manner.
