Job summary

New York Common Pantry is seeking a Part-Time Bilingual Help 365 Case Manager (English/Mandarin/Cantonese) to assist new individuals and Pantry Members with intakes for the Choice Pantry Manhattan program. You will issue membership cards and orient the members on program rules.

Responsibilities include intake assessments, benefits screening (ACCESS NYC), helping with SNAP and other benefits, documenting records, and maintaining confidentiality.

Qualifications

  • Full professional proficiency in English and Mandarin/Cantonese is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, or a related field; equivalent work experience considered.
  • Strong computer literacy and proficiency with office software.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct intake assessments for new clients and provide emergency pantry assistance.
  • Screen clients using ACCESS NYC to determine eligibility for public benefits.
  • Educate clients on available benefits and guide them to Help 365 services.
  • Assist with and track applications for public benefits like SNAP through HRA; ensure timely follow-up.
  • Verify and document receipt of benefits and entitlements for each client.
  • Create and maintain Pantry Membership records to support ongoing food assistance.
  • Perform annual recertifications and re-screenings for continued eligibility.
  • Resolve membership-related issues including lost or inactive cards.
  • Maintain confidential case records in the client database.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

The Part-Time Bilingual Help 365 Case Manager (English/Mandarin/Cantonese) will assist with new individuals/families and existing Pantry Members to process intakes for the Choice Pantry Manhattan program. This role will provide the membership cards and orient the members on the rules and regulations of the program. During the intake or re-certification process the Part-Time Bilingual Help 365 Case Manager (English/Mandarin/Cantonese) will also conduct screenings for entitlements and/or benefits; assist with acquiring benefits such as Food Stamps, Medicaid, Public Assistance, or Social Security Supplemental Income or make employment referrals; confirm acquisition of benefits and/or entitlements; and provide assistance with accessing the appropriate resources to prevent families from being evicted from their homes.

The Part-Time Bilingual Help 365 Case Manager (English/Mandarin/Cantonese) will report to the Social Services Program Manager at the 8 East 109th Street, New York, NY 10029 location. The schedule for this position is Tuesday through Saturday, 9 AM to 3 PM. This is a part-time, non-exempt position, scheduled for up to 28 hours per week.

Responsibilities

Conduct intake assessments for all new clients of New York Common Pantry and provide emergency pantry assistance as needed.

Screen clients using the ACCESS NYC benefits screening tool to determine eligibility for public benefits and entitlements.

Educate clients on available benefits and collaborate with them to identify which services to pursue through Help 365 case management.

Assist with and track applications for public benefits, including SNAP (Food Stamps) through the Human Resources Administration, ensuring timely follow-up.

Verify and document receipt of benefits and entitlements for each client.

Create and maintain accurate Pantry Membership records to support ongoing supplemental food assistance.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Drive.

  • Experience with case management databases.

  • Experience with HRA’s Paperless Office System (POS).

  • Experience with public benefits and utilizing database platforms to capture information.

  • Experience managing challenging interactions and de-escalating situations with clients while maintaining safety, dignity, and respect.

  • Cultural sensitivity and respect when serving diverse communities.

  • Strong multitasking skills and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-traffic environment.

  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
