Heritage Family in Bristol, VA is seeking a Part-Time Funeral Director to provide compassionate funeral, memorial, and cremation services. You will plan arrangements, guide families, coordinate logistics, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Licensed Funeral Director or Embalmer eligible for reciprocity; strong communication, ethics, and the ability to work evenings and weekends are essential.

Qualifications

• Current Funeral Director license in the State of Practice or eligible for reciprocity.
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mortuary Science from an accredited institution, as required by the State of Practice.
• Compliance with all state‑mandated continuing education (CE) requirements for Funeral Directors or Funeral Directors/Embalmers.
• Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state regulations governing funeral service, including OSHA requirements and FTC Funeral Rule compliance.
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to deliver compassionate and professional service to families.
• Strong organizational skills, sound judgment with the ability to manage multiple tasks, solve problems effectively, and maintain a high level of attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct funeral, memorial, and cremation services.
• Coordinate transportation, clergy, cemetery arrangements, and service logistics.
• Disclose service and merchandise costs clearly, including GPL and payment policies.
• Request and collect payments at the time of arrangement in accordance with policy.
• Maintain an average accounts receivable balance and coordinate with families and admin staff.
• Prepare documentation such as death certificates, burial permits, and cremation authorizations.
• Manage pre-need and at-need arrangements per internal policies and regulatory standards.
• Maintain proper identification and respectful care of the deceased throughout procedures.
• Supervise, mentor, and train apprentices and part-time staff.
