Job summary

City of Gilroy is seeking a part-time Assistant Fleet Technician to support the Fleet Division in maintaining city vehicles, heavy trucks, and equipment. The role involves oil changes, tire rotation, battery replacement, and assisting with inspections in a public safety environment.

Under supervision, you will learn to install emergency lighting and electrical components, work with shop equipment, and assist mechanics on larger jobs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of automotive/mechanics coursework preferred.
• Some hands-on automotive repair experience (min. 100 hours) required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with routine and preventive maintenance (oil/filter changes, tires, batteries).
• Support inspections and repairs, and assist with maintenance of emergency lighting and electrical components.
• Help with vehicle cleaning, fueling, and general fleet tasks.
• Assist mechanics with larger projects as needed.
