Job summary

The City of Oberlin is seeking a Firefighter to perform firefighting, rescue and emergency medical duties to protect life and property. The role includes driving assigned equipment, performing routine maintenance, and contributing to fire prevention activities.

Applicants will participate in ongoing training, and may be assigned to public education events and station duties. Strong communication, teamwork and adherence to safety protocols are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum 18 years of age.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• U.S. Citizenship required.
• Must successfully complete a physical abilities test evaluating physical aptitude.
• Must possess a valid Ohio Driver’s license and proof of insurability.

Responsibilities

• Responds to fire alarms and extinguishes fires using hoses and ladders; gains access to buildings and assists individuals.
• Administers basic or advanced life support at emergency sites and performs patient assessment and care under medical direction.
• Investigates causes and circumstances surrounding fires and hazards.
• Participates in ongoing training and operation of fire and rescue equipment; may drive emergency vehicles.
• Engages in public education and fire station tours; answers questions and provides services.
• Performs routine maintenance and upkeep of fire stations, equipment and tools.
• Maintains accurate records and reports; provides responsive customer service and community relations.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
