Job summary

Envista Forensics is seeking a part-time Fire & Explosion Investigator to support the San Antonio & Austin area. Requires 5+ years in fire investigation, CFI or ability to obtain within 6 months, and NAFI-CFEI certification where applicable.

Role involves investigating origins, collecting evidence, documenting scenes, interviewing witnesses, and preparing detailed reports for clients. Abilities to work in challenging environments and maintain client relationships are essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a fire investigator (public and/or private sector welcomed).
• IAAI CFI required or within 6 months of hire; NAFI-CFEI certification preferred.
• Bondable and eligible for private investigator licensing where required by jurisdiction.

Responsibilities

• Investigates and analyzes origin and cause of fire and explosion events in residential, commercial, and industrial sites per NFPA 921 and 1033.
• Collects evidence and documents scenes per NFPA 921 & 1033.
• Photographs incident site and preserves equipment/components for evaluation.
• Interviews witnesses and canvasses neighborhoods to identify additional witnesses.
• Identifies, documents, and analyzes compliance with fire suppression/detection systems.
• Reseaches failure modes and code requirements and prepares recommendations for stakeholders.
• Prepares clear, accurate reports outlining cause and origin for clients.
• Collaborates with multi-disciplinary teams on large assignments and maintains client relationships.
