Job summary

Lupine Community School is seeking a part-time farmer to manage day-to-day farming tasks on our working farm in Chapel Hill. You will grow vegetables, herbs, fruit, and flowers, maintain beds, and harvest for farm stands and box programs.

You will also lead hands-on farming experiences for elementary students several times weekly, helping them discover where food comes from while caring for a small, education-focused farm. This role emphasizes initiative, reliability, and community impact.

Qualifications

• Prior farming, market gardening, horticulture, or intensive food-growing experience is required.
• Formal agricultural education is welcome — we care most about practical knowledge, reliability, initiative, and demonstrated ability to grow things successfully.
• Experience teaching or working with children is helpful but not required. We can support the right farmer in learning how to translate their agricultural knowledge into engaging experiences for children.

Responsibilities

• Crop Production & Farm Work: hand weeding, plant, maintain, and manage crops and beds.
• Harvest, Produce Boxes & Farm Stand: prepare produce for sale and assist with farm stand.
• Farm Development & Beautification: identify places where edible plants can thrive and beautify spaces.
• Farming With Children: lead hands-on farming classes with elementary students several times a week.
