Position Summary:

A-State invites applications for qualified, experienced part-time faculty. Part-time instructors are hired to teach on a per course basis. Each academic term may present the need to hire new or additional Adjunct Instructors. This position may require day, evening, face-to-face, or online instruction.

This position is part-time and as an adjunct will be limited to teaching a maximum contact hours of 28 hours per week. Under general supervision, adjuncts will plan and implement curriculum for assigned course(s); effectively communicate class content to students in an online or face-to-face environment; evaluate students’ progress in attaining goals, objectives, and student learning outcomes; assist in retention efforts

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Adheres to all applicable university academic and employment policies identified in the Employee and Faculty handbooks and academic catalog

If teaching Didactic Courses:

• Develops course syllabi for each course assigned, if applicable. The syllabus will include learning objectives and any required university information and will be posted in the LMS.
• Instructs the depth and scope of class materials as outlined in the syllabus and catalog, relates instruction to course and academic program outcomes as may be defined by course or program assessment plans.
• Prepare and grade exams based on course objectives and published scheduled exams, and returns all assignments/graded work in a timely manner.
• Implements evaluation of outcomes assessments and achieves established results while maintaining college standards and student satisfaction.
• Work creatively in all assigned courses to keep students engaged to assist in increasing student retention.
• Instructs the depth and scope of class materials as outlined in the syllabus and catalog, relates instruction to course and academic program outcomes as may be defined by course or program assessment plans.

• Maintains clinical competence and knowledge in the area of expertise
• Maintain an updated course gradebook and submit course grades at the appropriate time

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Demonstrates an understanding of educational theory, instructional methods and evaluation technique and use of technology utilized in higher education in a classroom setting.

Demonstrates analytical and organizational skills necessary to plan, implement and evaluate educational activities to assure compliance with established goals and objectives.

Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written, necessary to interact effectively with all university constituents

Schedule as needed, weekdays and weekends, depending on clinical rotation assignment

Undergraduate maximum teaching load is determined by student contact hours in the clinical setting, student contact hours not to exceed 28 hours

The ASU System limits adjunct faculty employment to a maximum of nine (9) total credit hours per academic semester across all ASU System institutions combined. Adjunct employees may not exceed this limit through appointments at multiple ASU System campuses. It is the responsibility of the employee to disclose all current and anticipated adjunct assignments within the ASU System to ensure compliance with this policy. Failure to comply with this limitation may result in modification or termination of adjunct appointments.

Minimum Qualifications:

Nurses serving as assistant clinical instructors in undergraduate nursing shall have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, Master of Science in nursing degree preferred. At least two (2) years of clinical practice as a registered nurse is required.

Unencumbered RN license to practice in Arkansas or compact state, advanced practice licensure as appropriate for graduate programs.
