Position Overview

Portland Community College is accepting applications to be considered for Part‑Time Faculty assignments in Geology. The department will review applications in this pool as the need arises for new part‑time faculty in this area. Applicants may be considered for substitute assignments as well as full‑term class assignments.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree (or higher) in the subject area
• OR Master’s degree (or higher) in a related area and 30 quarter hours of graduate credit in the subject area (per transcript review)
• Subject Area degrees include: Geology, Geochemistry, Geomorphology, Geophysics, Geosciences, Earth Science, Earth Systems Science, Planetary Science, Paleontology.
• Related Area degrees include: Paleoclimatology, Physical Geography, Environmental Science, Science Teaching.
• Official transcripts required within 2 weeks of offer date; credentials must be from a regionally accredited US institution or an equivalent foreign institution.

Responsibilities

Provide instruction in geology courses (lecture, lab or lecture/lab) as assigned. This may include substitute instruction and full‑term class assignments. Prepare and deliver course materials, assessments, and student feedback in alignment with PCC’s instructional standards.

Compensation and Benefits

Newly hired Part‑Time Faculty at PCC generally start at Step 1 of the current salary schedule, with hourly rates determined by the type of course taught. Part‑time faculty may be eligible for certain benefits through PCC, such as Oregon Sick Leave and retirement savings plans.
