Job summary

NorthWest Arkansas Community College invites applications for a part‑time faculty position in the Bicycle Technician Program. The instructor will teach 3–11 credit hours per semester across a sequence of bicycle mechanics courses, with flexible scheduling including mornings, afternoons, evenings, or weekends as needed.

Job description

Part‑time faculty position reporting directly to the Director of the Bicycle Technician Program and the ED of Trails Trade School and Construction Technology. Pending need/enrollment, the instructor is responsible for teaching 3–11 load (credit) hours of Bicycle Mechanics courses per semester with the availability to teach mornings, afternoons, evenings, or weekends as needed.

  • BIKE 1023 Bicycle Braking Systems
  • BIKE 1033 Bicycle Drivetrain Systems
  • BIKE 1043 Ball Bearing Systems
  • BIKE 2013 Bicycle Wheel Repair and Assembly
  • BIKE 2023 Suspension Systems
  • BIKE 2033 Electric Bikes
  • BIKE 2043 Service Department Operation

The instructor will facilitate and evaluate student learning, prepare course syllabi and outlines, submit grades by established deadlines, and maintain student records in accordance with FERPA.

The instructor will attend meetings and functions of the college and department and complete other duties as assigned by the division dean or department chairs, including training. Professional development may be encouraged or required in some circumstances.

Professional Development
  • Participate in the faculty evaluation process.
  • Remain current in academic or program discipline, including attending professional conferences, and maintaining licensure, certification, or continuing education requirements where appropriate.
  • Receive training or stay current in technological or pedagogical advances that promote student learning.
  • Participate in college professional development activities.

Rate of pay: $765 per credit hour

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience in bicycle mechanics
Preferred Qualifications
  • Industry certifications in bicycle mechanics or related technical areas
  • Teaching experience at the college level or in a technical training setting
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Familiarity with bicycle mechanics, repair, and maintenance, including braking systems, drivetrains, wheel assembly, suspension, electric bikes, retail, and service department operations

Environmental Conditions

The work environment typically consists of a professional office setting with a moderate noise level, including sounds from conversations, office equipment, and occasional movement of staff. Lighting is standard for office spaces, and the temperature is controlled to remain within a comfortable range. Employees may occasionally need to visit other areas, such as storage rooms, conference spaces, or outdoor locations, where environmental conditions may vary. Infrequently, exposure to louder noise levels or physical activities, such as moving lightweight materials, might be required.
