Job summary

Town of Nantucket is seeking a Maintenance Assistant for Our Island Home. The role covers general building maintenance and facilities projects under the Facilities Maintenance Manager, with emphasis on safety and reliable service.

Applicants should have a high school diploma or equivalent, at least one year of experience, and a valid driver’s license. The position is 24 hours per week, SEIU union, with pay from $28.45 to $36.04 per hour depending on years of service.

Qualifications

• High School Degree or equivalent; minimum one year of work experience or an equivalent combination.
• Possess a valid driver’s license or ability to obtain one prior to employment.
• Knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry, and operation of building-related equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain vehicles, equipment and buildings per OSHA and Life Safety regulations.
• Safely transport facility residents in appropriate vehicles.
• Inspect Maintenance Log for repairs and required items; schedule as needed.
• Operate light trucks, vans, tractors, snow plows, mowing machines and power tools.
• Replace/repair furnishings, machinery and hardware as necessary.
• Assist in cleaning and sanitizing durable medical equipment and standard furnishings.
