Job summary

Town of Nantucket seeks a Maintenance Assistant for Our Island Home. The role involves a variety of skilled tasks in general building maintenance and facilities projects under the Facilities Maintenance Manager.

Strong customer service and communication skills are essential, with preferred knowledge in basic plumbing and carpentry. Candidate should have a High School Diploma or equivalent and at least 1 year of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and training.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required or acceptable combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of 1 year prior work experience or equivalent.
• Knowledge of basic plumbing and carpentry preferred.
• Ability to operate vehicle and small gas engine powered equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform general building maintenance and facilities projects as directed by Facilities Maintenance Manager.
• Provide excellent customer service and effective communication with staff and residents.
• Maintain facilities and respond to maintenance requests.
• Possess valid driver’s license or ability to obtain one before employment.

The Town’s nursing facility, Our Island Home, seeks qualified candidates for the position of Maintenance Assistant. Representative duties include a variety of skilled work including but not limited to general building maintenance and facilities projects as directed by the Facilities Maintenance Manager. Excellent customer service and communication skills essential. Knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry, as well as vehicle and small gas engine powered equipment preferred. Must hold a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain one prior to employment.

Twenty-four (24) hours per week; SEIU Union Position;

$28.45 per hour new hire - $36.04 per hour with 18 years of service with the town
