Job summary

VEG in California is seeking a Part-time Emergency Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-paced team. You’ll support triage, treatments, and compassionate care for pets from day one, working alongside credentialed clinicians.

You’ll gain hands-on experience, grow toward credentialed technician paths, and participate in a culture that values mentorship and community. Nights, weekends, and holidays may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrollment in AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program is a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus!).
• Strong communicator when collaborating with pet parents and your team.
• Fine motor skills for handling patients and medical equipment.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome and triage incoming patients, guiding them toward care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics from bloodwork to imaging.
• Work with technicians and veterinarians to set up and monitor anesthesia and sedation.
• Set up and manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration.
• Support care in outpatient or inpatient settings; participate in rounds.
• Join rounds and stay close to the clinical picture to ensure continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and pursue RECOVER certification (training provided!).
• Grow into advanced responsibilities through guided training pathways.
