Job summary

Terrapin House, Inc. is seeking a compassionate Support Staff Professional (SSP) to assist a 21-year-old man at home and in the community. This Enhanced Services position operates on a 2:1 staffing model, focusing on meaningful engagement, daily activities, and strong teamwork with a welcoming family.

You will provide hands-on care, facilitate communication via iPad and basic sign language, and participate in community outings to create enjoyable routines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Education, Special Education, Counseling, Social Work, Gerontology, or related field.
• NADD Certification with relevant hands-on experience.
• CNA certification or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide full personal care including bathing, feeding tube support, transfers and daily hygiene.
• Assist with mobility and positioning and support communication using iPad and sign language.
• Accompany him on community outings and activities, ensuring safety and engagement.
• Maintain an active, engaging daily routine and assist with hydration, meals and light housekeeping.
• Administer medications as trained and follow health protocols.

He loves sensory activities, community outings, learning new things, and staying connected to the world around him. He communicates using an iPad and basic sign language and thrives when staff are engaged, creative, and enthusiastic.

Just as important, you will be working alongside a wonderful family who are incredibly supportive, welcoming, and appreciative of the staff who support their son. This is a home where teamwork, respect, and open communication are valued, and where staff are treated as important members of the support team. There is solid behavioral support professionals who will guide and assist you in following the behavioral support plan.

About the Position

This is an Enhanced Services position requiring a qualified professional who can provide active, hands‑on support throughout the day. You will work as part of a 2:1 staffing team, helping to create meaningful experiences both at home and in the community.

This is not a passive support role. We are looking for someone who enjoys interacting, engaging, teaching, encouraging participation, and helping make each day enjoyable and successful.

What You'll Do

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Education, Special Education, Counseling, Social Work, Gerontology, or a related field

OR

• NADD Certification with relevant hands‑on experience

Preferred

• Experience supporting individuals with autism or developmental disabilities
• Experience implementing positive behavioral support strategies
• CNA certification or equivalent experience
• Experience providing personal care and mobility assistance

Additional Requirements

• Reliable transportation

• Comfortable working in a home with pets
• Physically able to assist with transfers and mobility support
• Ability to pass required background checks
• Strong communication and organizational skills
