Job summary

Right At School is seeking a part-time program assistant to support after-school and enrichment activities across partner schools in the Mannheim School District. You will greet students, lead activities, assist with homework, and help maintain a safe, structured environment.

The role requires a minimum of 1 year of childcare experience, excellent communication, and reliable attendance. You will work a flexible PM schedule and collaborate with a team to deliver engaging programs for students.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of experience working with children under 13 (preferred).
• Comfortable leading groups of children in activities and games.
• Outstanding customer service and communication skills with children and adults.
• Reliable and punctual; able to commit to a consistent part-time schedule.
• Ability to lift 25 lbs. and stand, walk, bend, and kneel throughout a shift.
• Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Greet and check in students at the start of each session; take attendance and maintain records.
• Plan and lead daily activities, games, and enrichment lessons for the age group.
• Facilitate homework time and support with academic tasks as needed.
• Supervise students during free play, snack time, and transitions.
• Address minor conflicts using positive guidance techniques.
• Communicate with parents/guardians at pick-up and drop-off.
• Log incidents, injuries, or safety concerns to the Program Manager or site lead.
• Set up and clean-up program space and materials daily.
• Attend brief daily team meetings to coordinate with other staff.

Position Details

Pay Rate: $16-19/hour (based on education and experience)

Program Hours: Monday-Friday: 3:15PM-6:00PM and Wednesday mornings: 7:45AM-10:25AM

Location: Candidates should be open to working at any of the schools we partner with in the Mannheim School District. We unfortunately cannot guarantee preferred school requests as our hiring needs are based on the needs of the programs.

What You'll Do

• Attend brief daily team meetings to coordinate with other staff

What We're Looking For

Illinois State Requirements

• First Aid and hands‑on CPR
• Cleared tuberculosis (TB) test
• Food Handlers Card
• Proof of MMR
• 18+ years of age
• Proof of High School diploma/GED required
• Background Check with fingerprinting
