Job summary

Right At School is seeking an Educator substitute to support after-school programs across partner schools in the Mannheim School District. You will lead activities, monitor safety, and help students with tasks in a structured, caring environment.

This role offers flexible, part-time afternoon hours, eligibility to gain valuable experience in education, and the chance to contribute to a supportive community that helps kids thrive in school and beyond.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of experience working with children under 13 (preferred).
• Ability to lead groups of children in activities and games.
• Outstanding customer service and communication with children and adults.
• Reliable and punctual; able to commit to a consistent part-time schedule.
• Ability to lift 25 lbs. and stand, walk, bend, and kneel during shifts.

Responsibilities

• Greet and check in students; take attendance and maintain records.
• Plan and lead daily activities, games, and enrichment lessons.
• Assist with homework time and academic tasks as needed.
• Supervise students during free play, snack time, and transitions.
• Address minor conflicts using positive guidance techniques.
• Communicate with parents/guardians at pickup/drop-off.
• Report incidents or safety concerns promptly to the site lead.
• Set up and clean up program space and materials daily.
• Attend brief daily team meetings to coordinate with staff.

Right At School provides Before & After School, Summer Camp, and Break Camp programs at 1,200+ schools across the country. Our programs deliver hands-on enrichment activities, homework support, active play, social-emotional learning, and more - all guided by a mission to inspire a love of learning, support schools, and give families peace of mind.

As an Educator, you'll work directly with kids - leading activities, facilitating a safe and structured environment, and building relationships - while gaining valuable experience in education and child development.

Position Details

Pay Rate: $16-19/hour (based on education and experience)

Program Hours: Monday-Friday: 3:15PM-6:00PM and Wednesday mornings: 7:45AM-10:25AM

Location: Candidates should be open to working at any of the schools we partner with in the Mannheim School District. We unfortunately cannot guarantee preferred school requests as our hiring needs are based on the needs of the programs.

What You'll Do

• Greet and check in students at the start of each session; take attendance and maintain accurate records
• Plan and lead daily activities, games, and enrichment lessons appropriate for the age group you're working with
• Facilitate homework time and support with academic tasks as needed
• Supervise students during free play, snack time, and transitions, ensuring a safe and structured environment
• Address minor conflicts or behavior issues using positive guidance techniques
• Communicate with parents/guardians at pick-up and drop-off regarding their child's day
• Report incidents, injuries, or safety concerns to your Program Manager or site lead promptly; log incident reports
• Set up and clean-up program space and materials each day
• Attend brief daily team meetings to coordinate with other staff

What We're Looking For

• At least 1 year of experience working with children under 13 (preferred)
• Comfortable leading groups of children in activities and games
• Outstanding customer service and communication skills with both children and adults
• Reliable and punctual; able to commit to a consistent part-time schedule
• Ability to lift 25 lbs. and stand, walk, bend, and kneel throughout a shift
• Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
• Flexibility to support additional program locations if needed

Illinois State Requirements

• First Aid and hands‑on CPR
• Cleared tuberculosis (TB) test
• Food Handlers Card
• Proof of MMR
• 18+ years of age
• Proof of High School diploma/GED required
• Background Check with fingerprinting
