Job summary

Qualifications

• Education and Experience: Must be at least 21 years of age to be alone with children; must hold at least a high school diploma or GED.
• Knowledge: Must be able to learn basic principles of teaching; must have good basic mathematical computation and English language writing knowledge.
• Skills: Must possess nurturing skills, be able to implement positive and anticipatory guidance with children, and be able to pick up, move and play with small children both in and out of doors, including routine tasks such as diaper changing, feeding, moving toys, doing laundry and dishes; must possess adaptability and flexibility, teamwork, communication (written and oral), initiative, planning and organization, problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Assisting in implementing developmentally appropriate instruction based on each child’s individual needs.
• Providing responsive caregiving to center-based children.
• Ensuring the safety of each child that is assigned to your care, checking toys and equipment daily.
• Communicating with primary teachers, parents, and children.
• Providing assistance in indoor and outdoor settings as directed by supervisor or primary teacher.
• Encouraging and respecting the particular ethnic background of all EHS and Carey Services families, children, clients and staff.
• Adhering to all plans, policies, and procedures of Carey Services and Early Head Start.
• Participating in ongoing training activities as outlined in EHS and State Licensing Regulations.
• Promoting agency-wide safety and housekeeping as well as take a proactive approach to preventive maintenance and delivery of quality service.
