Position Summary
The E-Sports Head Coach coaches, mentors, and recruits student competitors while supporting team practices, competitions, program operations, and student success. This position promotes academic achievement, teamwork, sportsmanship, and a positive competitive environment while maintaining NJCAA Esports compliance. This position is limited to no more than 19 hours per week.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Recruit, coach, mentor, and develop student competitors while promoting academic success, teamwork, leadership, sportsmanship, and retention
- Conduct practices and training sessions; evaluate player performance and provide feedback to strengthen individual and team performance
- Coordinate practices, scrimmages, tournaments, competitions, and E-Sports events and supervise students during program activities
- Support recruitment, outreach, social media, campus events, and community engagement to promote the E-Sports program
- Maintain program records, schedules, rosters, player statistics, and other documentation required for NJCAA Esports compliance
- Assist with gaming equipment, peripherals, inventory, and facilities and coordinate technical needs with Information Technology
- Maintain knowledge of competitive gaming trends, collegiate E-Sports practices, league rules, and applicable College policies
- Represent the College at competitions, tournaments, recruitment activities, and other program events
- Other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate’s degree or at least 60 earned college credit hours
- Six (6) months of experience participating in, coaching, managing, or supporting organized E-Sports, gaming, athletics, student activities, or related programs
- Knowledge of competitive gaming platforms and team-based competition
- Ability to work evenings and weekends and travel as required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- Two (2) years of coaching experience
- Experience coaching or competing in collegiate, amateur, or organized E-Sports leagues
- Experience working with college-age students or organizing tournaments, gaming events, or online communities
- Bilingual – English/Spanish
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of competitive gaming and collegiate E-Sports environments.
- Strong coaching, mentoring, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to motivate students and foster teamwork, sportsmanship, and positive engagement.
- Ability to organize activities, manage schedules, and collaborate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and community partners.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and common gaming platforms and software.
- Ability to travel and work away from campus as needed; requires a valid driver’s license, satisfactory driving record, and access to dependable transportation.
- Working knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) tools and the ability to use them responsibly, ethically, and in compliance with organizational guidelines.
- Requires the provision of official transcripts and/or certifications within (30) days of hire.

- May require travel to our main campus in Alvin and/or to various offsite locations, including local high schools in Alvin, Danbury, Manvel and Pearland and to Texas Department of Criminal Justice facilities in Richmond, Rosharon or Lake Jackson.
- This position requires a criminal history and/or motor vehicle records check.
