Job summary

Lone Star Dallas College seeks a Head Esports Coach to lead and launch the varsity esports program at the Dallas College campus. You will recruit student participants, coach the team, and develop game strategies for competitions and tournaments.

You will provide key input on games and events, coordinate with coaches on practice schedules, and help grow the program within NJCAA guidelines and institutional policies. This on-site role may evolve to hybrid after six months.

Qualifications

• Minimum one-year competitive esports experience with team-based games.
• Coaching or teaching experience preferred.
• Ability to recruit and develop student-athletes for collegiate esports program.
• Ability to understand NJCAA policies and program goals.

Work Location

• All positions are considered on-site roles.
• After six months of employment, some positions may be eligible to apply for a hybrid work arrangement based on job responsibilities, operational needs, supervisor approval, and Dallas College policy.
• Academic (Faculty) positions require an on-campus presence, even when teaching online courses, in accordance with state law.

Position Summary

A lead position that provides technical and administrative support to the athletes and fellow coaches at the campus location. The Head Esports Coach will be responsible for developing and launching the varsity Esports program at the Dallas College, as well as recruiting student participants for the program, and coaching and devising strategy for the team. The Esports Coach will also provide key input into the selection of games and tournaments in which the team will participate.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Strong knowledge of sports activities.
• Ability to provide guidance and direction for an ESports program.
• Able to coordinate with coaches about the scheduling of games and practices.
• Ability to utilize computer technology to access data, maintains records, generate reports and communicate with others.
• Must determine the time allocated for a field, court, weight room, computer labs.
• Demonstrate an ability to develop, coordinate, train and implement workshops and seminars such as: sports skills classes, events to recognize special accomplishments, classroom/community presentations to inform and recruit student/athletes.
• Able to maintain a variety of related records/databases and provide information required for decision making and reporting to state/federal agencies.
• Must be able to file reports on the status of each team and its successes and shortcomings.
• Oral and written communication skills in order to support interaction with individuals from varying backgrounds.
• Strong knowledge and experience providing effective customer service.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to create strong professional relationships with colleagues, staff and clients.
• Knowledge of the purpose of community colleges and the vision of Dallas College.
• At least one-year competitive eSports experience involving multiplayer online video games with team-based elements and expert knowledge of League of Legends, Overwatch, Hearthstone, or similar games.
• Coaching or teaching experience preferred.
• Experience recruiting high school or college students preferred.
• Ability to envision and drive growth for the Colleges' Esports program.
• Ability to understand NJCAA policies and philosophy.
• Self-motivated, with the ability to resolve issues independently.
• Strong relationship-building skills.
• Effective written and oral communication skills, including public speaking.
• Affinity with the overall mission of Dallas College.
• Ability to work and interact with students, faculty, administrators and professional colleagues within the Dallas College community network.

Physical Requirements

• Normal physical job functions performed within a standard office environment.
• Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings and weekends is required.
• Significant travel is required for recruiting.
• Sit/stand for long periods of time, operate or demonstrate instructional equipment and technologies, speak and hear clearly, transport equipment to various sites, drive to various sites, lift heavy objects to approximately 50 pounds.
• May work around standard office conditions. Use of manual dexterity. Climbing of stairs. Lifting and moving. Schedule may vary with sport season.
• Reasonable accommodations may be made to individuals with physical challenges to perform the essential duties and responsibilities.

Minimum Knowledge and Experience

• Associate degree plus one (1) year of experience or high school plus two (2) years of experience. Official transcripts will be required. Ability to work extended hours beyond the regular 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. workday including nights and weekends.
• Current and valid Texas driver's license required.
• Driving Requirements (If driving on behalf of Dallas College, as applicable):
• Bilingual preferred.

General Requirements

A person must have a valid Texas driver's license, be at least twenty-one (21) years old and have three (3) consecutive years of verifiable licensed driving history to drive or operate passenger automobiles that can legally be occupied in Texas by not more than nine (9) occupants.

Passenger Van Requirements

• A person must have a valid Texas driver's license, be at least twenty-one (21) years old, and have five (5) consecutive years of verifiable licensed driving history to drive or operate passenger vans, buses and any other passenger automobiles that can legally be occupied by a total occupancy not to exceed ten (10) individuals. In addition to meeting the previously stated requirements, a person seeking approval under this section must take the Dallas College Driver Safety Training - Van Course before they are allowed to operate such vehicles on official Dallas College business.
• After October 1, 2019, all persons requesting approval to become an authorized van driver must meet the requirements above and; a) have verified driving experience of 50 miles or more while accompanied by an approved van driver in the same type
