Job summary

Piggly Wiggly Food for Less is seeking an Experienced Cook/Deli Associate who enjoys serving customers and providing excellent, courteous, and prompt customer service in Montgomery, AL. The role involves preparing and serving food items, maintaining cleanliness, and supporting daily deli operations.

The position supports a locally owned grocery store with a focus on safe products, community connection, and strong customer service. Flexible hours including evenings and weekends may be required.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently.

Responsibilities

• Provide continuous attention to customer needs; greet, assist and thank customers in a prompt, courteous and friendly manner.
• Offer product suggestions when appropriate.
• Stock and rotate department products to ensure freshness and date control; restock and use supply items efficiently to eliminate waste and to maintain the lowest supply cost.
• Operate department equipment and tools in a safe and appropriate manner.
• Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identify unsafe conditions, accidents, or issues and notify store management.
• Notify management of team member theft, customer shoplifting, unauthorized mark‑downs, property defacement or any action that is illegal and/or against company policy.
• Prepare and serve food items such as hot meals, sandwiches, salads, soups, etc.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, including cleaning equipment and utensils.
• Practice preventive maintenance by properly inspecting equipment and notifying appropriate department or store manager of any items in need of repair.
• Understand the company’s checkout/purchasing procedures to include how customers and staff pay for items in the store.
• Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines to include maintaining a clean and orderly work area.
• Assist with inventory management and ordering supplies as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned to include stocking, cleaning, etc.
• Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.
