Job summary

Grand St Settlement Inc. seeks a Part-Time Custodian in New York City to maintain and clean the BEST/NORC program spaces, kitchens, and surrounding areas. Responsibilities include daily upkeep, snow shoveling in winter, and coordinating with NYCHA for repairs.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, custody/maintenance experience, and the ability to lift up to 25 lbs. Bilingual in Spanish/Chinese is a plus; flexibility for after-hours emergencies is expected.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Previous custodial and/or maintenance experience.
• Able to lift and move objects up to 25 lbs.
• Strong communication skills with staff and participants.
• Bilingual in Spanish and/or Chinese preferred, not required.
• Ability to work independently and address maintenance needs.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality with scheduling flexibility.
• Certificate of Fitness for Supervision of Fire Alarm Systems (S-95).

Responsibilities

• Perform general maintenance and daily upkeep of the program site.
• Maintain the kitchen, activity rooms, offices, and outdoor areas; shovel snow when needed.
• Sweep and mop floors daily; wax floors quarterly.
• Transport materials to recycling areas; inspect deliveries.
• Monitor fridge/freezer temperatures and fire alarm system status daily.
• Assist with setup/breakdown for events and pantry activities.
• Coordinate with NYCHA on maintenance requests and ticketing.
• Provide weekend maintenance support as required.
• Remain available during work hours for emergencies.
