Job summary

American University in Washington, DC is seeking a part-time Costume Shop Technician to support daily operations of the costume shop and create costumes for performances in the Greenberg Theatre and Katzen Arts Center.

Under the Costume Shop Designer, you will assist in fittings, supervise student staff, perform alterations, and help manage costume storage and delivery between spaces.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2 years relevant work experience in costume or tailorshop.
• Experience with fittings and shop operations is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist in daily costume shop operations and costume builds.
• Supervise student staff in the costume shop and wardrobe crews.
• Support production work in Katzen and Greenberg theatres (delivering/picking up costumes, assisting with stitching, and supporting guest designers).
• Perform alterations and craftwork as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Summary:

The Costume Shop Technician reports directly to the Costume Shop Designer. Under the direction of the Costume Shop Designer, the technician will support the daily operations of the costume shop and create costumes for performances in the Greenberg Theatre and Katzen Arts Center.

Essential Functions:

• Assist in all aspects of the costume shop daily operations andcostume builds. With the Costume Shop Designer, they will supervisestudent staff in the costume shop and on wardrobe crews, participate in fittings, consultations, and shop work. They willbuild costumes as needed, perform alterations, and craftworkpertaining to their specialty.
• Assist in maintaining costume facilities, and ensuring properprocedures are followed. Assist in managing and organizingextensive costume storage.
• Support production work in both Katzen and Greenberg theatre(delivering/picking up costumes between spaces, assisting institching on Katzen shows, and supporting guest designers in bothspaces)
• Other duties as assigned.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

• Part-time.
• 20 hours per week (27 hours maximum).

Salary Range:

• $23.00 - $25.00 per hour.
