Job summary

Horner & Shifrin, Inc. seeks a part-time Construction Engineer/Administrator to support our Construction Services team in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. The role combines field inspection with administrative tasks, requiring 3+ years of experience and a strong safety mindset.

The successful candidate will review plans, assist with pay estimates, prepare daily reports, and coordinate with project personnel while maintaining quality and regulatory compliance on municipal and DOT projects.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of construction engineering or administration experience.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to pass a background check.

Responsibilities

• Inspect bridges, roadways, storm sewers, and related public works sites for compliance with plans and specifications.
• Inform the Construction Manager of issues observed.
• Coordinate with Construction Management to address questions from the public, client, or contractor.
• Inspect earthwork, traffic control, erosion control, utilities, paving and markings.
• Measure and record quantities for payments using client forms/software.
• Prepare daily field reports with pay quantities and material requirements.
• Provide photo documentation to support observations.
• Assist with pay estimates, extra work orders or claims.
• Support field staff with project strategies and approachs.
