Job summary

Woodruff Family YMCA Milford, CT is seeking a Classroom Assistant to support daily operation of early childhood and school-age classrooms. You will help implement activities, supervise children, maintain safety and communicate with families in line with YMCA policies.

This part-time, non-exempt role emphasizes teamwork and reliable, positive engagement with children and staff. Training is provided to support a welcoming, inclusive program.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old and experience working with children preferred.
• Demonstrates reliability, professionalism and effective communication with children and adults.
• Ability to remain calm, observant and safety-conscious; follows direction and adapts to changing needs.

Responsibilities

• Models YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility with children, families and staff.
• Assists with daily routines, supervision and behavior support to ensure safety and positive engagement.
• Helps prepare and lead age-appropriate activities; maintains clean, organized learning spaces.
• Maintains required ratios and active supervision; remains alert to child needs and environmental risks.
• Supports accurate records (attendance, incidents, notes) and follows check-in/out procedures and confidentiality.
• Follows YMCA policies, emergency procedures and mandated reporting; attends required trainings.
