Job summary

Cumberland Public Library in Cumberland, RI seeks a part-time Circulation Assistant to support daily desk operations, assist patrons with catalogs, and provide basic reference help. Duties include checking materials in/out, handling charges, and generating reports.

Schedule is 19.5 hours per week with rotating weekends and two evenings per week; one Sunday per month with premium pay. Starting pay is $18.16 per hour.

Qualifications

• High School diploma required; college courses or degree preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively with the public.
• Ability to prioritize and juggle multiple tasks.
• Computer experience required and beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Attends circulation desk: checks in/out, renews, rents, and inspects materials; handles charges.
• Assists patrons with online catalogs, locating materials, and library rules.
• Operates library systems: data entry, updates records, and generates routine reports.
• Provides reader's advisory and basic reference assistance; handles interlibrary loan when needed.
• Files forms and records according to procedures; maintains order and accuracy.
