Job summary

Handley Regional Library is seeking a customer-service oriented individual to assist the public at a busy public service desk. Occasional night and weekend hours are required, with 20-23 hours per week and a rate of pay of $15.00 per hour.

The position reports to the Branch Manager and is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act. Duties include circulation, information services, and support for children's programming.

Qualifications

• General knowledge of library principles and practices.
• Ability to operate library computer system and assist patrons.
• Good organizational and clerical skills.
• Ability to work independently and remain calm under pressure.
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide circulation and information services at a busy public service desk.
• Assist patrons with the online catalog and other computer resources.
• Support children's programming and displays.
• May serve as Notary Public for Virginia (when applicable).
• Support branch operations in the absence of the Branch Manager.
• Perform other related duties as required.
