Job summary

Waukesha YMCA is seeking a part-time Child Watch Staff member to provide safe, nurturing childcare for children aged 6 weeks through 7 years. Under Child Watch leadership, you will support families and uphold the YMCA mission.

You will work to identify each child’s needs, encourage age-appropriate play, and follow all safety procedures. CPR/First Aid certification is preferred; training is provided by the YMCA.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 15 years old.
• Ability to communicate with members, parents, and children.
• CPR/First Aid certification preferred; YMCA provides training.
• Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Supervise children 6 weeks - 7 years of age.
• Represent the department by handling communications with parents and members.
• Identify individual needs of children and provide care accordingly.
• Encourage and involve children in appropriate group and/or individual play.
• Model and explain appropriate behavior; address and redirect inappropriate behavior.
• Maintain participant attendance, emergency records and other documentation as assigned.
• Ensure safety and cleanliness of equipment and facilities.
• Develop positive relationships with parents and participants providing motivational support and guidance.
• Attend staff meetings, workshops and seminars to increase knowledge and skills as needed.
• Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
• Complete incident and accident reports as necessary.
