LifeSouth Community Blood Centers in Gainesville, FL seeks a dependable Part-Time Cellular Therapies Lab Assistant to support daily operations of our Cellular Therapies laboratory. You will work with the team on processing, handling, storing and transporting cord blood specimens and components.

  • Prepare laboratory reports and related documentation.
  • Follow PPE and safety procedures at all times.

Looking for a role that offers the opportunity to work in a unique laboratory environment?

LifeSouth Community Blood Centers is looking for a dependable, organized Part‑Time Cellular Therapies Lab Assistant in Gainesville, FL to support the day‑to‑day operations of our Cellular Therapies laboratory.

This role is a great fit for someone who works well independently, can balance multiple responsibilities and takes pride in completing their work accurately and on time. You’ll work alongside our laboratory team performing a variety of tasks that support the processing, handling, storage and transport of blood specimens and components.

You don’t need extensive laboratory experience to be successful in this role. We’re looking for someone who is reliable, comfortable following established procedures, willing to learn and ready to contribute as part of a team.

What You’ll Do
  • Receive, organize, and prepare specimens and tubes for laboratory testing
  • Review specimens and accompanying documentation to ensure they are properly labeled and acceptable for testing
  • Identify and help resolve specimen, labeling, or documentation issues
  • Prepare, organize, and distribute laboratory reports and related documentation
  • Maintain, monitor, and restock laboratory supplies and inventory
  • Prepare and label biohazard containers for proper disposal
  • Perform routine quality control checks on Cord Blood equipment and monitor temperatures to ensure they remain within acceptable ranges
  • Transport patient specimens and blood components according to established procedures
  • Assist with cleaning and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment
  • Assist with the storage and retrieval of cord blood units and samples from liquid nitrogen freezers, refrigerators and other storage equipment
  • Assemble and prepare Cord Blood collection kits
  • Work with laboratory reagents and chemicals while following established safety procedures and required PPE practices
  • Manage multiple tasks and priorities while completing assigned work accurately and within required timeframes
  • Work both independently and collaboratively to support the needs of the laboratory team
What You’ll Need
  • High school diploma or GED
  • The ability to work independently, stay on task and manage multiple responsibilities
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills
  • Dependability and punctuality, with the ability to complete work within established timeframes
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn laboratory systems and processes
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Attention to detail and the ability to follow established procedures and moderately complex written and verbal instructions
  • A safety‑focused approach and willingness to follow laboratory safety requirements, including the use of required personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 55 pounds and perform physical activities including bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing and balancing
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to meet and maintain LifeSouth driver eligibility requirements
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Previous laboratory experience preferred

LifeSouth Cord Blood Bank is a community‑based public cord blood bank that collects and stores umbilical cord blood for the purpose of clinical cures and research in the field of stem cell transplantation.

Salary and Details

This is a part‑time position. Starting salary range is $15.50 - $17.05 an hour. Criminal background check and drug screen required upon conditional offer of hire. Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer/Drug-Free/Tobacco-Free Workplace.
