Job summary

Joliet Junior College is seeking a part-time Building Service Worker to perform custodial duties, maintain a clean and safe campus environment, and support events and general campus needs. The role is entry-level with supervision and opportunities for training and advancement.

The position emphasizes safety, teamwork, and adherence to OSHA standards while supporting department and college goals. Applicants must be prepared for a 90-day probation period and a 28-hour weekly schedule.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Willingness to learn procedures.
• Must pass physical examination.
• Ability to follow specific verbal and/or written instructions.
• Courteous, dependable, and ability to work well with diverse population.
• Ability to lift, carry, stack, and maneuver objects with a maximum weight of 50 lbs.
• Be willing to go up in an open lift for window cleaning to heights of approximately 25 feet.
• Must obtain and maintain a valid Driver’s license within six months of hire.
• Ability to establish cooperative and effective working relationships with others, showing cultural competence.

Responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize areas according to required cleaning methods.
• Assist in moving and set up of equipment and furniture for events and campus needs.
• Assist in shoveling sidewalks and exterior custodial care.
• Take classes offered for custodial duties or for college employees.
• Observe safety standards per JJC and OSHA rules.
• Report damages to Lead Custodian.
• Operate and maintain custodial equipment safely.
• Participate in department and college goal attainment.
• Be trained on special projects like carpet/fabric care and window care under supervision.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
