Job summary

Omaha Public Schools Belle Ryan Elementary in Omaha, Nebraska is seeking a Backup Manager to support meal preparation, service, and kitchen operations for students and staff. The role requires leading staff, ensuring food safety, and maintaining high customer service standards.

The position is part-time with daytime hours, typically 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., August through May when students are in session; additional hours may be required if the manager is absent. Starting pay is $18.75/hour.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required
• Successful completion of Manager Training within previous school year, scoring 80% or above required
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic using money, weight, volume, and distance
• Previous food service experience preferred
• Knowledge of food safety practices and procedures
• Demonstrated attendance and work reliability
• Ability to interact effectively with students, staff, and families of diverse backgrounds
• Able to operate dish machine and assist with cleaning and sanitizing equipment

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation, service, and storage of food
• Serve as Backup Manager and lead staff when needed
• Monitor portion control and ensure cost-conscious practices
• Maintain daily records and complete required reports
• Support service excellence and customer care
• Follow HACCP procedures and food safety guidelines
• Travel to other OPS schools as needed
