Job summary

Omaha Public Schools Harrison Elementary is seeking a part-time Backup Manager/ Kitchen Assistant to support meal service for students and staff. Duties include food prep, serving, cleaning, stock rotation, and operating dishwashing and kitchen equipment. Must be reliable and able to work with a diverse school community.

Reports to the Executive Director of Nutrition Services. Starting date is immediate; hours are 5.0 per day, 8:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., August through May.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic with money, weights, volumes, and distances.
• Prior food service experience preferred.
• Safe food handling skills.
• Excellent attendance and work record required.
• Basic knowledge of food safety practices and procedures.
• Ability to interact with students, staff, parents from diverse backgrounds.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to operate kitchen and dishwashing equipment.
• Must obtain/maintain Douglas County Food Handler Certification.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation, serving, and storage of food.
• Assist with required reports and daily tasks.
• Work with a diverse student population and be a positive role model.
• Trains in all kitchen stations to cross-cover as needed.
• Promote outstanding customer service and efficient service.
• Monitor portion control and safe storage of supplies and food.
• Follow HACCP procedures and food safety guidelines.
• Maintain hygiene and sanitation standards in all areas.
