Job summary

The YMCA in Buena, NJ is seeking a part-time, non-exempt Child Care Assistant to implement the established curriculum and supervise children in before- and after-school programs. You will interact with youth, support families, and ensure a safe, welcoming environment.

Requires a high school diploma, 18+ years old, and CPR/First Aid/AED and child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire; prior child-care experience preferred; 16 hours per week minimum.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• CPR, First Aid, AED and oxygen certifications and child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire.
• Experience with children in a developmental setting preferred.
• Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate activities.
• Ability to work with diverse populations and build positive relationships.
• Understanding of ADA compliance and inclusive practices.

Responsibilities

• Implements the curriculum and interacts with children within guidelines.
• Work minimum 16 hours per week.
• Travel to site locations within the district.
• Nurtures children through purposeful programming to build achievement and belonging.
• Supervises children, rooms, and activities, following procedures and standards.
• Knows emergency procedures to ensure child safety.
• Fosters relationships with parents, staff, and administration; connect volunteers.
• Maintains program site and equipment to keep a safe, clean environment.
