Your role will include taking drink orders, recommending beers and wines, whipping up fast and simple small plates, snapping pics and videos for Instagram, creating both classic and unique cocktails, driving bar business, and keeping the bar area (front and back), spotless. Responsibilities
- Maintain a neat and professional appearance with a properly cleaned outfit
- Greet guests warmly, politely, and timely. Take and deliver orders accurately and efficiently.
- Possess basic knowledge of beverage offerings and menu items
- Recognize opportunities to up-sell where appropriate
- Avoid over-pours and spillage
- Prepare and plate basic hot and cold menu items
- Understand the Toast order-taking system to be able to clearly, accurately, and quickly convey guest orders using computer or manual systems
- Work with the hotel team to ensure that guests’ needs are continually met. Help to educate other members of the Food & Beverage Team on beverages available and service techniques
- Assist guests with any needs, corrections, or additional items desired during service
- Prepare and present customer bills. Correctly understand all payment methods accepted, how to process payment, make changes, and open/close cash drawer, if required. Understand reporting requirements for tips
- Ability to safely operate restaurant equipment, including, but not limited to, coffee makers, refrigeration, dishwashers, juice machines, ice machines, ice crushers, point of sale systems, Express Chef, etc
- Handle and communicate special orders and guest complaints in a professional manner
- Participate in the set up, execution, and clean up of seasonal decor events and banquet functions as outlined in Banquet Event Orders/Event Sheets and as directed by the Sales & Catering Manager/Dining Room Manager
- Maintain bar service area cleanliness as well as personal cleanliness and sanitation standards as required by the NY Department of Health and Human Services and OSHA, as well as general maintenance and upkeep of the licensed premises
- Know who to notify in case of broken equipment or unsafe/unsanitary conditions
- Protect the assets of this property and Lark Hotels
- Properly identify customers' age through identification cards, and serve alcoholic beverages following all applicable federal, state, local, and company rules and regulations
- Complete all restocking and cleaning duties by performing opening and closing side work as instructed
- Collect payments, settle patron checks, and ensure tabs are paid, as well as record daily sales totals in the point of sale system
Qualifications
- Must be eligible to work in the United States of America
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, with guests and employees, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy
- Ability to understand verbal directions, as well as written menus, recipes, labels on foods and chemicals, and other workplace safety signage
- Knowledge of common food allergies and understanding of cross-contamination issues
- Outgoing personality, with good oral comprehension, expression, and speech clarity
- Ability to work under pressure and deal with stressful situations during busy periods
- TIPS Certification or other alcohol safety certification
Abilities Required:
- Frequent walking, bending, balancing, stooping, reaching, pushing, lifting, manual dexterity, and repetitive motions. May require the ability to work on uneven outdoor surfaces
- Must be able to manually handle/lift/carry product up to 60 pounds between knees and shoulders
- Must be vertically mobile, working in a limited space for up to 8 hours at a time
- Schedule varies according to operational needs; on evenings, weekends, holidays.
- Frequent hand-washing
- Candidates must have completed high school or received similar certification (GED)
- Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with customers and coworkers
- Must have a strong focus on putting the patron first with exceptional customer service experience
- Outstanding time management and organizational skills
- Previous experience working in food service is preferred
Compensation
$17 - $19 hourly + tips
