Job summary

Villanova University is seeking an American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to join the Office of Access and Disability Services. The role provides real-time ASL/English interpretation for classes, meetings, and campus events, with a team-based approach and scheduled coverage during peak periods.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Demonstrated interpreting experience in educational or comparable environments.
• Fluency in American Sign Language and in both oral and written English.
• RID certification (NIC , CI/CT, or equivalent) or eligibility.
• Knowledge of deafness and deaf culture.
• Demonstrated commitment to supporting Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals.
• Understanding of Villanova’s Augustinian and Catholic values.

Responsibilities

• Provide real-time ASL/English interpretation for academic courses, meetings, and campus events.
• Deliver accurate, complete interpretation in real time in voice-to-sign and sign-to-voice modes.
• Maintain confidentiality per FERPA and ensure impartiality.
• Collaborate with the full-time interpreter to provide team interpreting for longer sessions.
• Prepare for complex vocabulary and support effective communication between Deaf/Hard of Hearing students and faculty.
• Coordinate weekly coverage blocks and adjust to class schedules.
