Job summary

Brooklyn Community Services is seeking an Assistant Director – After School at PS 156 – The Waverly School of the Arts, 104 Sutter Avenue, in Brooklyn. This in-person, temporary part-time role supports the Site Director in day-to-day operations of the K-5 after-school program, with activities from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm and extended summer hours.

The position requires teamwork with families and staff, staff training, and engagement with DYCD and funders.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Education preferred depending on teaching experience.
Minimum two years of direct experience with children under 13.
Supervisory experience in a child care program or related field.
Experience in education and/or after school programming.
Good computer skills; strong verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities

Provide effective supervision of teachers, assistant teachers, and volunteer staff in the Site Director's absence.
Plan and implement clubs and field trips.
Participate in DYCD, BCS and other training opportunities when schedule permits.
Assist in managing and maintaining student and staff files in compliance with DYCD, DOH and BCS policy.
Aid the Site Director in the interview process as needed and following BCS’s Hiring Policy.
Assist the Site Director in the recruitment and enrollment of students and provide data entry support for timely attendance and enrollment reporting in DYCD Connect.
Assist the Site Director in maintaining compliance with all DYCD, DOH, and DOE regulations.
Assist the Site Director and afterschool staff in organizing parent engagement activities.
