Job summary

Brooklyn Community Services is seeking an Afterschool Assistant Teacher to support elementary students from 2:45 pm to 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday, at the Academy for Young Writers and Spring Creek Community School (1065 Elton Street, 11239). The role is in-person only, with 13 days of holiday camp when DOE is closed.

Responsibilities include supporting the lead teacher, delivering hands-on lessons, and engaging families.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required; some college preferred.
• Experience with youth in afterschool or summer programs.
• Ability to cover across all afterschool programs when needed.
• Pass background check with NYC DOE/Health/DOE clearances.
• STEAM, arts, or sports coaching background is a plus.
• Computer savvy: videoconferencing and emailing.

Responsibilities

• Provide classroom support and substitute coverage as needed.
• Assist with hands-on multi-sensory and project-based lessons.
• Submit lesson plans for approval on schedule.
• Plan field trips with lead teacher and supervise students.
• Engage families and communicate with them as required.
• Use innovative teaching strategies to boost literacy and SEL.
• Support culminating events showcasing student learning.
• Supervise 20 students during activities and transitions.
• Assist with daily activity prep and materials.
