Lake Superior Academy in Sault Ste. Marie is seeking a Part Time Latchkey staff member for its after school program.

This 18-hour-per-week position runs Monday–Thursday 3:00 PM–5:30 PM and Fridays 11:00 AM–5:30 PM, at our tuition-free public school serving K-5 students. The ideal candidate creates a safe, nurturing environment, supports student well-being, and collaborates with families to ensure high-quality care.

Formación

• HS diploma or equivalent; associate degree or coursework in ECE/Child Development preferred.
• Experience with school-age children in care, education, recreation, or youth programs preferred.
• Strong understanding of child development and positive behavior management techniques.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Current First Aid and CPR certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
• Must meet state, district, and school employment requirements including background checks.

Responsabilidades

• Supervise students in before and after school care, ensuring safety at all times.
• Plan and facilitate age-appropriate recreational, educational, and enrichment activities.
• Foster an inclusive, welcoming environment where students feel respected.
• Monitor behavior and reinforce positive behavior per guidelines.
• Assist students with homework and provide academic support as appropriate.
• Maintain accurate attendance records and verify authorized pick-ups.
• Communicate with parents/guardians about participation, behavior, and updates.
• Prepare, organize, and clean activity areas before and after program operations.
